Technical Lead, Enterprise Integration (EI)
Location: Brampton, ON
The Loblaw Enterprise Integration (EI) landscape is entering its most significant transformation period.
With the introduction of a new operating model, large-scale cloud migrations, and the onboarding of new enterprise data flows, this role operates as a technical platform leadership function responsible for the design, reliability, and evolution of distributed integration systems at scale.
You will lead the stability and architecture of Loblaw’s integration backbone, governing 1,000+ enterprise data flows across Stores, Pharmacy, Supply Chain, SAP, Digital, and core data platforms.
This role requires deep ownership of integration patterns, system dependencies, and failure modes, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and performance across mission-critical systems.

What You’ll Do
Platform Ownership & Stability
Own and stabilize Enterprise Integration platforms, including:
IBM MQ, MQFTE, ACE/IIB, Cleo (MFT/EDI), Apigee (API gateway), Airflow (Cloud Composer), and Google Cloud data platformsLead cutover, parallel run, and rollback strategies during platform migrations, ensuring seamless transition and stability across legacy and target environments.
Architecture & Modern Integration Patterns
Define and enforce enterprise integration standards and design patterns across messaging, APIs, file-based, and event-driven architectures.
Messaging backbone (MQ → Pub/Sub evolution)
API layer (Apigee)
File & B2B integration (Cleo, Cloud Storage)
Orchestration (Airflow / Cloud Composer)
Data pipelines (Big Query, Dataflow)
Enable and standardize modern integration patterns:
Event-driven architecture (Pub/Sub, event-based flows)
API-led integrations
File-based and EDI workflows
Hybrid cloud integration models
Operations & Reliability Engineering
Design and implement resilient integration patterns, including retry strategies, dead-letter queues, idempotency, and failure isolation to ensure system stability under high-volume, distributed workloads.
Lead observability initiatives using Grafana and flow-level monitoring across distributed systems
Enterprise Transformation Leadership
Own end-to-end operational readiness and stabilization for major modernization initiatives
Act as the single technical authority across EI platforms during concurrent, high-risk transformations
Provide clear technical and strategic leadership POV in governance and transformation forums
Partner with SAP, Supply Chain, Stores, Pharmacy, and Data teams and architects to ensure seamless system integrations
What You Bring
Enterprise Integration & Platform Expertise
Strong hands-on experience across enterprise integration technologies, including:
Messaging & File Transfer: IBM MQ, MQFTE
Integration & Orchestration: ACE / IIB
Managed File Transfer / B2B: Cleo (EDI integrations)
API Management: Apigee (or equivalent API gateways)
Orchestration: Cloud Composer (Airflow)
Data & Processing: Dataflow (stream and batch pipelines)
Storage & File Patterns: Cloud Storage
Technical Depth & Systems Thinking
Deep understanding of enterprise integration patterns:
Asynchronous messaging and queue-based architectures
API orchestration and service-based communication
File-based and EDI integration workflows
Event-driven architecture (pub/sub, streaming systems)
Strong grasp of distributed systems behavior, including:
Failure modes, retries, and recovery patterns
Throughput, latency, and back-pressure handling
Dependency management across multi-tiered systems
Platform Ownership & Transformation Experience
Proven experience in:
Owning and stabilizing large-scale production platforms
Leading platform and enterprise transformation programs
Ability to operate at both:
Deep technical level (design, troubleshooting, optimization)
Platform leadership level (architecture decisions, cross-system alignment)
