Staff iOS Developer

At Loblaw Digital, we know that our customers expect the best from us. Whether that means building the best, most innovative online shopping experience, or designing an app that will impact the lives of people across the country, we’re up for the challenge. From our office in Downtown Toronto, we’ve created leading eCommerce experiences in the online grocery shopping, beauty, pharmacy, and apparel spaces, and we’re only just getting started.

Why is this role important?

As a Staff iOS Developer at Loblaw Digital, you'll serve as the key technical lead for our mobile experiences across the Discover & Engage domains. You will focus on ensuring architectural consistency, modularity, and high performance across our suite of iOS applications, while also bringing strong backend awareness to shape APIs, BFF contracts, and service orchestration that power our customer experiences.
In this role, you'll be a trusted partner across engineering, product, and design teams, shaping both short-term deliverables and long-term technical direction, bridging mobile and backend systems to deliver resilient, scalable solutions.
What You’ll Do:
  • Own iOS Technical Strategy: Lead the technical vision and implementation for iOS apps, including Homepage, Browse, and PDP components.
  • Champion SDUI and Performance: Guide adoption of Server-Driven UI patterns, ensuring dynamic page loading, headless component rendering, and app performance optimization.
  • Shape Backend Integration: Collaborate with backend and BFF teams to define API contracts, caching strategies, and data flows that enable performant and flexible mobile experiences.
  • Cross-Stack Leadership: Ensure consistency between FE and BE architectures, aligning iOS modularization with backend service design (REST/GraphQL, event streams, orchestration).
  • Lead Cross-Team Initiatives: Drive initiatives that span iOS, web, and backend, such as unified navigation, analytics (Snowplow, OTEL), deep linking, and personalization frameworks.
  • Mentor and Uplevel Teams: Mentor senior developers and influence engineering culture, setting high standards for both mobile and backend collaboration.
  • Drive Tooling and CI/CD Improvements: Contribute to the evolution of developer tooling, pipelines, and monitoring across mobile and backend integration points.
Does This Sound Like You?
  • 8+ years of professional iOS development experience with deep expertise in Swift, UIKit, and modern architectural patterns.
  • Strong working knowledge of backend systems (APIs, BFFs, caching, service orchestration), with the ability to influence and design cross-stack contracts.
  • Proven track record of leading platform modernization efforts (SDUI, component systems, hybrid legacy/modern stacks).
  • Experience with performance instrumentation and debugging tools (Instruments, Firebase Perf, Crashlytics) and observability platforms (Snowplow, OTEL).
  • Fluent communicator across stacks — comfortable aligning mobile and backend teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Experience in retail, e-commerce, or multi-surface platform environments is a plus.
