Sr Specialist Food Safety, Supply Chain - 12mth Contract

Reports to: Sr Dir Food Safety – Supply Chain 

Role Mandate:  

The Food Safety Sr Specialist – Supply Chain, supports the implementation and continuous improvement of compliance to LCL Food Safety standards in all aspects, in all stages of the Supply Chain. The Food Safety Specialist works with various internal and external teams (Operations, 3rd party logistics, regulators, business units, food safety team etc) to aid in the integration and adherence of policies and processes with respect to Food Safety thereby ensuring compliance to all statutory and company requirements.  

What you’ll do: 

  • Build and support food safety culture within organization at all levels. 

  • Evaluate the relationship between data, analytics, and processes when developing the long-term vision of food safety.  

  • Engage with Loblaw business units to develop/engage on strategic decisions.  

  • Identify and focus on the positive progression of growth of the food safety program within the Supply Chain and provide mentorship to support the vision. 

  • Provide leadership on food safety issues, ensuring that management and employees understand the implications of food safety regulations as well as their impact on, and importance, to the business. 

  • Identify/support and report situations which may compromise food safety.  

  • Provide support and expertise in root cause analysis ensuring appropriate corrective actions are outlined and implemented.  

  • Develop partnerships with various cross functional teams, both internal and external to Loblaw to support Food Safety initiatives  

  • Deliver / reinforce food safety through training, understanding and skills for all employees within the Supply chain team as appropriate. 

  • Provide input on the development of new policies and procedures as required  

  • Complete food safety audits in accordance with LCL food safety standards. 

  • Stay current on all legislation and engaged with regulators ie CFIA, Health Canada, PHI. 

  • Keep informed of food safety issues within Canada, anticipate developments that could or will affect food safety and recommend measures that address such developments. 

What you’ll bring: 

  • 5+ years work experience in food safety, quality assurance, or other related areas 

  • Post-Secondary degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Public Health Inspection or other related fields. 

  • Knowledge of both Canadian and Provincial regulatory requirements for the handling of food products. 

  • Energy, passion, and dedication with tenacity and flexibility to meet any challenge 

  • Strong analytical skills and dept at data manipulation and evaluation of data trends 

  • Dynamic, curious and energetic approach in achieving food safety objectives 

  • Embrace change, challenges and working autonomously 

  • Excellent communication skills to connect with individuals and cross functional teams, to tackle shared problems.  

  • The ability to outline logical and clear solutions proactively to business and team members. View challenging situations as opportunities for improvement. 

  • Willing and able to travel across Canada via car or plane (travel out of province 40 - 50 %)
