Senior Vice President, Peers Relations - NATIONAL

The SVP, Peers Relations is primarily accountable for the strong and collaborative relationship between Shoppers Drug Mart and its Associate-Owners.  The primary objective of the SVP, Peers Relations is to foster positive, constructive business relationships with Associate-Owners, Peers and the Company, including Business Unit Executives, towards the growth and success of both the Associate-Owned stores and the Company.

Overview:

Reporting directly to the President, the SVP, Peers Relations will be involved in all significant company activities and dealings with Associate-Owners.  The SVP, Peers Relations will also represent Associate-Owners in their communications to Shoppers Drug Mart Executives and Business Management in a productive manner that is beneficial to both Associates and the Company. This role will be primarily located out of SDM Toronto office and requires 50% travel.

The SVP, Peers Relations will work in a constructive, consultative and collaborative manner with Associate-Owners, Peers Chairs/Representatives and the Company Executives to foster a relationship based upon strong two-way communication, mutual respect and trust, with the goal of achieving successful business outcomes for both parties.

Principle Duties:

  • The cornerstone of Shoppers Drug Mart is the Associate-Owner Concept.  Peers Relations plays a critical role in the on-going success of the concept of helping to facilitate effective two-way communication between the Company and Associates.  This includes discussions and meetings with the Regional Peers Committee Representatives to ensure that Corporate and Associate goals are strategically aligned.
  • The SVP, Peers Relations fosters a strong working relationship with the Peers Representatives and Peers Chairs to enable constructive dialogue with Senior Management.
  • Peers Relations is responsible for oversight of the Associate Working Groups to ensure material improvements are executed by these working groups.
  • Peers Relations works with Associates and Peers Representatives on various initiatives to incorporate input and feedback on corporate initiatives, program and elements of the Associate Concept.
  • Peers Relations is responsible for the Associate Relationship Survey and working in conjunction with Peers and Operations to develop National and Regional Action Plans to address the opportunities identified in the survey and ensure follow up on those Action Plans.
  • Peers Relations is responsible for working with Regional Operations in identifying, for the Company, candidates to become Associate-Owners, assisting Associates as they approach retirement and managing and maintaining an ongoing relationship in Associate Alumni matters.
  • In conjunction with the Operations Teams and HR, Peers Relations is responsible for an appropriate succession plan to cover our current and future demand for Associate-Owners.  This includes participating in the recruitment of Associates from both inside and outside the Corporation.
  • The business training of Associate-Owners is one of the key fundamentals to the success of the business.  Accordingly, Peers Relations works closely with HR and Operations in the development, modification and implementation of Associate orientation and mentoring programs. 
  • Develop a sustainable plan for WILA (Women in Leadership for Associates)
  • Other projects and initiatives related to the Associate Concept as may be required from time to time.

The Peers Relations Team consists of:

  • SVP, Peers Relations – reports to the President
  • Executive Assistant – reports to the SVP, Peers Relations

Experience and Education:

  • Successful experience as an Associate-Owner for a minimum of 5 yrs (Multi-Store Associate is preferred)
  • Exceptional results in store engagement surveys
  • Current or prior experience as a Peers Representative and/or Peers Chair
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to and understand the needs and interests of both Associate-Owners and Shoppers Drug Mart
  • Understand all aspect of the business, including the Associate Owner Franchise Concept and its agreement in detail
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multiple stakeholder relations
  • Pharmacy Degree (currently licensed is preferred but not mandatory)

Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive cross-country Canadian travel is required at various times of the year (minimum 50% of the time)
  • Exceptional relationship building experience
  • Excellent presentation skills, comfortable with public speaking
  • Shoppers Drug Mart strategic priorities by developing strong working relations with Associate-Owners and Corporate Executives
  • Able to work under pressure of deadlines
  • English oral and written interpersonal skills required (French is an asset)
  • Personal belief in mission goals and values of Shoppers Drug Mart and the Associate Concept
  • Integrity, personal creditability and trustworthiness
