Role Mandate

The Senior Director, Procure-to-Pay (P2P) provides enterprise leadership and strategic direction for the P2P function, with accountability for operational performance, financial stewardship, controls, supplier experience and the continued transformation of P2P.

The role oversees the financial management of approximately 30,000 suppliers across trade and non-trade, with accountability for services across Vendor Services (Accounts Payable), Vendor Income, Post Vendor Audit Recovery, EDI and Costing.

A key component of the role is the governance and oversight of the third-party service provider responsible for day-to-day P2P operations, ensuring clear accountability for service delivery, performance, risk, controls and continuous improvement.

The Senior Director will also lead the evolution of P2P from an enterprise perspective, building a more standardized, automated, insight-driven and scalable operating model while strengthening partnerships across Merchandising, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Store Operations, Procurement, Finance and other enterprise functions.

Key Accountabilities

Enterprise P2P Leadership & Strategy

  • Set the strategic direction and multi-year roadmap for P2P, aligned with EBS, Finance Transformation and enterprise priorities.
  • Translate strategy into clear priorities, performance expectations and measurable outcomes for internal teams and service partners.
  • Drive an enterprise approach to P2P by simplifying and standardizing processes across functions, banners and geographies.
  • Bring forward industry practices, technology and new ideas that improve financial, operational, supplier and colleague outcomes.
  • Challenge existing ways of working and ensure P2P capabilities continue to evolve with the needs of the business.

Third-Party Operations & Governance

  • Provide governance and oversight of the third-party service provider responsible for day-to-day P2P operations.
  • Establish and manage clear SLAs, KPIs, controls, service standards and accountabilities.
  • Lead governance forums focused on performance, risk, controls, issue escalation, capacity and continuous improvement.
  • Hold the service provider accountable for service quality, operational performance, compliance and timely resolution of issues.
  • Identify systemic performance gaps and ensure sustainable root-cause solutions and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure outsourced operations remain aligned with business priorities, control requirements and the P2P transformation roadmap.

Risk, Controls & Financial Governance

  • Maintain accountability for a strong financial control, risk and governance environment across P2P, including internally managed and outsourced activities.
  • Oversee the identification, escalation and remediation of operational, financial, compliance and supplier-related risks.
  • Provide oversight of Vendor Income and Vendor Audit financial processes, including period close, forecasting and budgeting.
  • Ensure appropriate governance of significant financial processes and regulatory requirements, including Vendor Income deferrals and the Grocery Code of Conduct.

Transformation & Continuous Improvement

  • Own and advance the enterprise P2P transformation roadmap, creating a more standardized, automated and scalable operating model.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, eliminate manual activity and leverage automation, analytics and emerging technology.
  • Champion effective change management and adoption across internal teams, business partners and third-party service providers.
  • Partner with Finance Transformation, Technology, Sourcing and other functions to connect P2P priorities with broader enterprise initiatives.

Enterprise Stakeholder Leadership

  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across Merchandising, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Store Operations, Procurement, Finance and other enterprise functions.
  • Maintain an end-to-end understanding of how business functions and processes intersect across the P2P lifecycle.
  • Influence decisions across organizational boundaries and align stakeholders around enterprise priorities and outcomes.
  • Communicate complex performance issues, risks, decisions and recommendations clearly and effectively to senior leaders, business partners and suppliers.

People & Organizational Leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop a geographically dispersed team, creating clear accountability and a strong sense of shared purpose.
  • Build a collaborative "one team" culture across functional areas, locations and service partners.
  • Develop leadership capability and succession through coaching, feedback, mentorship and meaningful development opportunities.
  • Ensure the organization has the right structure, capabilities and talent to support the current and future P2P operating model.
  • Foster an environment where colleagues challenge assumptions, contribute ideas and continuously improve how work gets done.
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking, results orientation, integrity, authenticity, empathy, curiosity and collaborative candor.

Role Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Finance, Procure-to-Pay, Shared Services, Enterprise Business Services or a related discipline, including senior leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, complex operations across internal teams and third-party service providers.
  • Strong experience with outsourced service-provider governance, including SLAs, KPIs, performance management, risk, controls and executive escalation.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, governance, risk management and compliance in a complex operational environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading transformation, operating model change, process standardization and continuous improvement.
  • Experience leveraging automation, analytics and technology to improve operational performance and controls.
  • Strong enterprise mindset with the ability to influence across functions and organizational boundaries.
  • Proven ability to build, coach and lead high-performing teams.
  • Strong executive communication, presentation, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a complex, high-volume and continually changing environment.
  • Degree or diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline.
  • Some travel will be required for this role.
