Senior Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis
Reports To: Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis
Location: Central Office – Toronto, ON (four days mandatory in office)
Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis, this role is responsible for analyzing a portfolio of store expense accounts and related financial data. The successful candidate will not only complete financial analyses and forecasts but also interpret their impact on business performance and provide clear insights to stakeholders. In addition, this role will support store support teams and collaborate closely with various internal departments to address inquiries and drive operational and financial effectiveness.
Primary Responsibilities
- Execute period-end close activities, including preparing journal entries, analyzing expense accounts, and providing variance explanations to support consolidated financial review.
- Develop store level annual operating plans and execute periodic forecasts with weekly adjustments, by incorporating current trends and key business drivers.
- Maintain strong partnerships with store support teams and business partners, offering guidance and support in interpreting financial performance.
- Create and maintain reference documentation to ensure process consistency and knowledge sharing.
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and escalate high-risk activities as appropriate.
- Support ad-hoc projects and initiatives, serving as the primary daily contact for all finance-related matters.
- Ensure that various schedules are accurately maintain on periodic basis to track expenses and to reconcile accruals and prepaids.
Skills
This position requires a demonstrated level of initiative and judgment to organize and prioritize tasks and workload. Courtesy, tact and diplomacy are required in dealing with colleagues in everyday working relationships.
- Ability to manage, manipulate and analyze data to identify and quantify business opportunities/risks
- Must be able to provide sound analysis and comparisons with some guidance
- Attention to detail and an appreciation and acumen for placing/having thorough checks in place
- Business acumen - knowledge of accounting guidelines, principles and procedures
- Strong organizational skills and able to prioritize work with varying exceptions
- Communicates with clarity in one on one or group situations, and over the telephone/video calls
- Advanced Excel Skills & knowledge of MicroStrategy or SAP an asset
- Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn and contribute
- Team player with the ability to collaborate and share information while striving under pressure in a fast-paced high-performance culture
- Professional manner, tact and discretion in dealing with colleagues including senior management
Experience
- 2-3 years of previous work experience in Finance, Accounting, Business or equivalent preferred.
Education
- University degree in Business or Accounting
- In the progress to or in the final stages of professional accounting designation
