As the Manager, Strategic Procurement you will join the Senior Manager and play a key role in sourcing and negotiating indirect goods for 20 distribution centers from coast-to-coast-to-coast. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Indirect Procurement, you will be responsible for categories with multi-million dollars in spend and providing new ideas and leadership to secure the best market value through process improvement, demand management, and sourcing initiatives. You will prepare and analyze moderate to complex category sourcing projects, provide recommendations, lead negotiations and implementation for the award of business to vendors.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead cross-functional teams in the execution of strategic sourcing projects and designated departmental spend reduction and process improvement initiatives.
- Lead sourcing events, RFx, negotiations, and contracting to put in place selected vendors.
- Manage and optimize supplier performance, contract compliance, continuous improvement, innovation, and reduction in total cost of ownership.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with our vendor(s) while effectively resolving vendor performance/capability issues to ensure alignment with Loblaw Companies expectations.
- Work with the Sr. Manager to develop opportunity assessments and strategies based on changing market conditions for assigned categories and application of advanced sourcing methodology in negotiation planning and contract development.
- Keep informed of technology offerings and global market trends that facilitate the purchasing of indirect goods globally to achieve cost reductions.
- Continually seek process improvements for cost savings.
What You’ll Need:
Educational and Professional Background:
- A university degree in Business or a related quantitative field.
- Three years of proven experience in buying and strategic procurement.
- External procurement certification is preferred.
- Previous experience within the Transportation Industry, Supply Chain Operations or Strategic Sourcing is preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel & PowerPoint.
- Extensive knowledge in sourcing, supplier performance management, and strategic sourcing methodologies.
- Adept at summarizing complex data into key insights.
- Ability to create/collect, manage and analyze sizeable datasets and/or research information.
- Knowledge of Commodity Markets in a Retail environment is an advantage.
- Previous experience with SAP, Ariba, Fieldglass, Jaggaer or e-sourcing tools is an asset.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent written/verbal communication with strong interpersonal skills.
- Effective communication across all levels, including senior leadership.
- Advanced initiative, judgment, and organizational skills. Courtesy and tact in professional relationships.
- Proficient in English (written and spoken).

- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Innovative thinking with the capability to address diverse business challenges.
- Category-specific background would be an added advantage.
