Finance Senior Manager, Construction & Project Teams

Loblaw Companies Limited is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Finance Senior Manager to serve as a key business partner to our Construction & Project Teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for guiding the Construction department in establishing standardized processes, implementing strategic initiatives, and maintaining best-in-class reporting standards. This role requires proactive participation in identifying and implementing process improvements to ensure financial reporting accuracy and consistency across the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary finance business partner for the Construction and Project Teams, providing comprehensive financial management and reporting support. This includes assisting with budget development, approvals, actuals reporting, and forecasting to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.  The role also requires a willingness to assist with a variety of tasks as needed, which may include invoice processing, account reconciliations, and other related duties.
  • Develop and implement standardized processes and controls for budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, and actuals reporting.
  • Map and optimize the project lifecycle, from initial concept through pre-development and final approval, providing practical recommendations and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage the flow of project data from inception to asset capitalization within the project system.
  • Oversee and manage communication of project updates to internal stakeholders, ensuring consistency and accuracy in reporting.
  • Liaise with various departments within Loblaw to foster collaboration and synergy.
  • Participate in cost savings initiatives and contribute to the development of the department's strategic plan.
  • Manage competing priorities and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
  • Assist in the review and evaluation of processes related to the collection and reporting of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets, with a focus on waste reduction and carbon emissions reduction initiatives.
  • Conduct annual sample testing to assess the accuracy and completeness of key ESG metrics, ensuring data integrity and reliability.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of finance or accounting experience.
  • Professional finance designation (e.g., CPA, CMA, CGA).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and construction fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in systems and process management.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering results.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience with SAP and Project System is an asset.
  • Experience working with construction departments is an asset.
  • Strategic thinker with creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong team player with the ability to maintain positive working relationships.
  • Customer service-oriented attitude.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work effectively independently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and project management software.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
