Director, Finance, Loblaw Pharmacy

This position plays a key role in the financial support and development of the Loblaw Pharmacy department within Loblaw Companies Limited. The successful candidate will be a true Business Partner and help drive weekly Pharmacy reporting and accountability, business analysis, budgeting, forecasting and the review of strategic initiatives. This individual will have direct interactions with the VP of Pharmacy Operations and will also work closely with the Sr. Directors and Directors supporting Pharmacy Operations.

What you'll do:

  • Provide day-to-day reporting and ad-hoc analysis for the Pharmacy department.
  • Manage the period end close process and conduct detailed P&L review, which includes thoroughly reviewing and analyzing financial performance and presenting results to Senior Management at Shoppers Drug Mart and Loblaws.
  • Analyze weekly and periodic sales and prescription count trends to identify early warning indicators of potential problems and / or opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with the Pharmacy Operations team to provide value‐added analysis and recommendations to help them better understand drivers, trends, and their overall financial position.
  • Gain an understanding of the current pharmacy operations processes and provide recommendations on improvements (ie. Inventory count process, AR and Payment processes, etc).
  • Liaise with other functional areas (Finance, Pharmacy Planning, Operations, Labour Management and Human Resources) to co-ordinate cross-functional analysis and data accumulation.
  • Support Pharmacy growth/savings initiatives and other ad hoc projects by providing financial analysis and recommendations.
  • Lead the preparation, review, and analysis of the annual store-level operating budget process and periodic forecasting process, and present results to Senior Management and the Pharmacy Operations teams.
  • Be the subject matter expert and Finance representative of Loblaw Pharmacy Finance in meetings with the Business and Operations.  Drive collaborative cultural change and awareness by building working relationships based on trust, and improving collaboration within portfolios.
  • Manage business expectations, and setting priorities as appropriate.
  • Mentor and coach team members in achieving their goals and IDPs, provide feedback and address any performance issues.
  • Develop strong cross-functional partnerships and relationships to support key critical initiatives as needed.
  • Assist with ad-hoc and cross-functional projects and initiatives as required.
  • Building and leading diverse teams that foster a workplace of inclusiveness and belonging. 

What you bring:

  • A Post-Secondary education in Finance or related field is required; experience working in a fast-paced environment, particularly corporate and/or retail will be considered an asset.
  • Professional Finance Designations such as CPA-CMA or MBA preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 6-8 years of relevant experience which includes business or financial analysis, budgeting/forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • 4-5 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to bring together and manage interactions with employees from across the organization.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills with proven ability to work well with people and deliver objectives on time and within budget.
  • Strong eye for business, with an ability to focus on continuous improvement.
  • Experience with Business support and partnering, an asset.
  • A change agent who can influence and get people on side. Able to make sound and timely decisions in an environment characterized by a high level of complexity and continual change.
  • Must collaborate and relate well to people with diverse personalities and styles, and is able to manage up, down, and across the organization using tact and diplomacy.
  • Excellent written and communication skills. Must have experience and be comfortable with presenting results to Senior Management.
  • Pharmacy or grocery industry experience would be an asset.
