Why this role is important?

Director, Digital Health Interoperability

We are seeking a collaborative and forward-thinking Director of Digital Health Interoperability to lead the development of a nationwide health data interoperability framework. In this role, you will work closely with healthcare providers, health system leaders, and technology partners to enhance the secure exchange and integration of electronic health records (EHRs) across Canada's healthcare ecosystem. By fostering connections across the system, you will help ensure that patients and care teams have real-time access to critical health information, supporting better health outcomes.

A key focus of this role will be to strengthen the integration of pharmacists into the broader eHealth ecosystem, ensuring their clinical contributions are standardized and accessible across the healthcare continuum. This initiative will enable pharmacists to play an expanded role in primary care and medication management in collaboration with other healthcare providers.

This position is days 4 days in Office at 243 Consumers Road, Toronto.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy & Leadership:

  • Partner with healthcare providers, health system leaders, and policymakers to advance a Connected Health strategy that supports seamless, secure, and patient-centered data sharing across provinces.
  • Work with stakeholders to align digital health policies with emerging industry standards (e.g., HL7 FHIR, API interoperability) and evolving national healthcare goals.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration to improve interoperability, ensuring alignment across pharmacy, clinical, and digital health teams.
  • Support province-specific initiatives that build upon a broader national Connected Health strategy.

Health Data Standards & Interoperability:

  • Collaborate with health system leaders and policymakers to shape national health data governance and interoperability frameworks.
  • Guide the development of secure, privacy-compliant digital infrastructure that enables timely access to longitudinal patient records for healthcare providers and patients.
  • Support the adoption of standardized APIs and interoperability solutions that improve communication across EHR, pharmacy, and clinical systems.
  • Advocate for pharmacists' integration into connected health solutions, ensuring their contributions to patient care—such as medication history and clinical interventions—are seamlessly incorporated into digital health records.
  • Become a subject matter expert in key areas of provincial digital health landscapes, including regulatory developments.

Implementation & Integration:

  • Work alongside provincial healthcare authorities and care providers to pilot and scale Connected Health initiatives in diverse healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies.
  • Partner with IT, security, and compliance teams to ensure the development of a secure, privacy-compliant national health information exchange (HIE).
  • Help facilitate access to funding and resources that support healthcare providers in transitioning to modernized, interoperable systems.
  • Serve as a bridge between internal and external stakeholders, including government representatives, to help inform and influence strategy.
  • Drive pharmacy system interoperability, ensuring pharmacists can contribute and access real-time patient records to support clinical decision-making.

Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy:

  • Foster relationships with healthcare providers, payers, technology partners, and patient advocacy groups to build trust in Connected Health initiatives.
  • Engage with government agencies and industry leaders to support the evolution of digital health policy and infrastructure.
  • Champion the role of pharmacists in connected health, demonstrating how their involvement enhances medication safety, chronic disease management, and primary care coordination.
  • Deliver compelling presentations to key stakeholders, effectively communicating strategy and progress.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • 7+ years of experience in healthcare technology, digital health transformation, or health IT leadership.
  • 2+ years of strategic planning experience within the healthcare sector.
  • Strong understanding of EHR systems, health data interoperability, privacy regulations (PIPEDA, PHIPA), and standards like HL7 FHIR and SNOMED CT.
  • Experience collaborating with healthcare providers, government agencies, and technology partners to drive digital health initiatives.
  • Ability to navigate healthcare regulatory frameworks and contribute to policy discussions that advance interoperability and connected care.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a national effort to enhance collaboration and data-sharing across the healthcare system.
  • Work alongside healthcare providers and system leaders to improve patient care through digital health innovation.
