Why this role is important?

Category Assistant (Fresh Food)

We’re looking for a Category Assistant to join our team. Reporting to the Category Director, this role supports product, financial, and administrative processes related to category management. You’ll help maintain accurate data, support merchandising initiatives, and collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers.

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain and monitor key sales and financial data; prepare weekly reports and insights

  • Complete and manage required documentation (e.g., product and vendor information)

  • Ensure data accuracy across systems (e.g., SAP, CPMS) in collaboration with sourcing teams

  • Prepare materials for flyers, merchandising plans, and seasonal programs, including pricing and product details

  • Review and proof marketing materials to ensure accuracy

  • Support internal teams by resolving store issues efficiently

  • Communicate updates and category information to stores

  • Collaborate with teams such as Space Planning, Logistics, Operations, Supply Chain, and Merchandising to address issues and improve processes

What You Bring

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving

  • Clear and professional communication skills across different formats and audiences

  • Comfort working with data, spreadsheets, and databases

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders

  • Sound judgment and discretion when working with sensitive or business-critical information

  • Familiarity with category management or merchandising principles is an asset

Experience & Education

  • At least 1 year of experience in a business, retail, or merchandising environment

  • Post-secondary education in business, merchandising, or a related field—or equivalent experience
