Buyer - Sourcing, Bakery

Why this role is important:

Reporting to the Bakery Sourcing Director, this role plays a critical part in delivering profitable, reliable, and innovative bakery programs for our retail divisions. As a Buyer, you will be actively involved across the full sourcing lifecycle—from domestic and offshore procurement to vendor performance management, RFPs, cost negotiations, and supply risk mitigation.

You will partner closely with the Director to translate market intelligence into actionable category strategies, providing insights on cost inflation, industry and competitive trends, and global product innovation. This role offers broad exposure, meaningful ownership, and the opportunity to influence commercial outcomes within one of our most dynamic categories.

What you’ll do:

Buying & Commercial Execution

  • Own weekly, seasonal, and promotional product buys for baseline and event-driven volume.

  • Execute buying strategies aligned to category playbooks and annual financial targets.

  • Support budget delivery through disciplined cost management and mitigation initiatives.

Vendor & Performance Management

  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with the vendor community and external partners.

  • Lead and support vendor meetings, including product costing discussions and commercial negotiations.

  • Actively manage vendor fulfilment, service levels, and financial performance.

Costing, Risk & Insights

  • Analyze cost drivers, inflationary pressures, and market dynamics to inform sourcing decisions.

  • Monitor supply risk and collaborate with internal partners to proactively address availability or service challenges.

  • Research competitive benchmarks related to costing, quality standards, and global sourcing practices.

Innovation & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Evaluate new product and platform innovation across branded and private label programs.

  • Partner with Loblaw Brands, Supply Chain, Replenishment, and Transport teams to bring programs to market efficiently.

  • Represent the Bakery category within the broader Sourcing organization with credibility and curiosity.

What you bring:

  • A curious, proactive mindset with a strong sense of ownership.

  • Post-secondary education in business, supply management, or equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, or retail merchandising.

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to analyze data and translate insights into action.

  • Confidence influencing cross-functional partners and external vendors.

  • Financial and retail literacy, with comfort discussing costing, margins, and trade-offs.

  • Strong relationship-building skills and clear, professional communication.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, with comfort navigating multiple systems and platforms.
